The Dallas Stars will open training camp bright and early on Friday, September 13th, with three sessions scheduled to accommodate the 64 players invited to camp. Training camp lasts three days (Friday through Sunday) before they have their first of seven preseason games on Monday night at the American Airlines Center.
Each day, the team will hit the ice in three sessions:
8:30 AM – 10:00 AM Session One
10:30 AM – 12:00 PM Session Two
12:30 PM – 2:00 PM Session Three
That is, of course, subject to change based on how the coaching staff are feeling and how the players are performing. Expect the training sessions to be high-paced and for a lot of drills to speak to the relentless style second-year head coach Jim Montgomery wants from his team, both on and off the puck.

The thing to watch in Group B will be any drills in which John Klingberg and Joe Pavelski are on a man-advantage unit together. It’s been speculated that the two could create good chemistry for Pavelski’s infamous ability to tip goals in from the front of the net. Klingberg has a deceptive shot from the point, so maybe the two will get a jump-start on finding their timing together.
New Security Measures
It should be noted that the Stars have implemented new security measures that will apply to all fans visiting Comerica Center for both training camp and regular season practices. These measures will be in effect this weekend, so you may encounter lines as you enter the facility. Allow a little extra time if you want to be there for the start of the on-ice sessions this weekend.
New security measures include screening and bags subject to search before entering the ice rink portion of the facility. The tunnel between the parking garage and the entry to the rink will now be a “no waiting zone”. This area, traditionally where fans could hang out and wait for players to exit the locker room and get autographs, will no longer be where autographs are done. The Stars will designate an autograph zone, subject to team discretion.
