Free Agency Tracker: All’s Quiet on the Dallas Front Edition

NHL Free Agency opens in under an hour, so here’s some of what’s being reported for key free agents. In terms of rumors around the Dallas Stars, it’s pretty quiet, as is usually the case with general manager Jim Nill. He did have an interesting take on this period in his media availability after winning General Manager of the Year in Nashville on Wednesday that could have you checking your notifications late into next week:

“I’m looking at all options,” Nill said about improving his roster that was eliminated in the Western Conference Final this season. “I’ve talked to some teams about some trades. It’s making contract, cap, money work, trying to figure those things out. We also know there’s going to be some good players available. Because we’re a good team, I think we’re a destination so players want to come play on a good team, we’re a good city, good franchise. We’re in a good place. We have to manage the cap, but every team has to do that. Might not be a big splash come July 1st, it might be a week later or something. I think there’s going to be more deals later in July than July 1st.”

  • Recently bought out Matt Duchene reportedly has interest from 10 teams, so he’ll be in high demand out there as one of the top goal-scoring free agents available.
  • Goaltender Freddy Andersen (Carolina) appears to be testing the market today.
  • Milan Lucic is projected to reunite with the Boston Bruins.
  • Goaltender Cam Talbot is reportedly signing with the Los Angeles Kings.
  • Defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson appears headed to the Florida Panthers after being bought out by the Vancouver Canucks.

We’re in Frisco today for Stars Development Camp and will speak to Nill later today after moves are made. Enjoy the frenzy, y’all.
