This one is a bit of a head scratcher now that the dust is clearing.
Dallas Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk traded leading scorer and future hall of famer Jaromir Jagr to the Boston Bruins today after Jagr publicly stated last week that he would be open to staying here in Dallas.
The return, it was thought, would have to be significant to out-weigh another year of the PR bump the Stars receive with Jagr in the lineup, not to mention the point production of which the 41 year-old is still capable.
The market for a 13 or 14 game rental, however, is a reality much different than what Dallas Stars fans would prefer as neither Alexander khokhlachev or top Bruin prospect Spooner is included in the deal.
DAL will receive prospects Lane MacDermid and Cody Payne (Plymouth) as part of the Jagr trade with BOS.

Cody Payne is big, prototypical power forward. He has a natural mean streak and hits to separate people from the puck. He’s also a willing pugilist. He has spent most of his junior career as a bit player, buried on the depth chart, but has shown that he can be an effective, grinding winger for skilled linemates when given the chance. This season promises to be an important one for Payne as he looks to work himself into the Plymouth Whalers top-nine.

MacDermid is a physical menace. Big, strong and mean, he hits everything in sight, plays to intimidate and is a willing pugilist. And while his skills are limited, he’s worked hard to improve his overall game and it showed on the scoresheet last season.
Neither one projects to be a skilled top-six player.
