Defending Big D Is Looking For Contributors

The world of Dallas Stars media coverage continues to evolve, and unless things change in the 6-ish weeks before training camp opens, it’s likely that there could be no independent media contingent with a full-time beat reporter. It’s a sad state of affairs for one of the largest media markets in the country, and we feel that fans of this team deserve better than that.

It’s why we fought to continue existing after Vox/SB Nation unceremoniously announced they were defunding and de-platforming us back in January. We combine the passion of fans of the team with a data-backed approach to expressing opinions. Sometimes the team agrees with us, sometimes the vehemently disagree with the conclusions we come to, but one thing is always true: the viewpoint we have is valued.

As we drudge through the worst part of the sports calendar, we’re looking to add to our team here at Defending Big D. We’re looking for passionate hockey fans to add their voice to the Stars media landscape that is looking so barren these days. If you would like to contribute to our coverage, whether through game previews, recapping games throughout the season, breaking news, statistics analysis, or something completely unseen to date, we want to hear from you.

To be considered, please send an example story of at least 500 words to us at dbdwriters@gmail.com. It can be on any topic, relevant today or as an example of how you would write about it in-season (i.e. an injury report, game preview, etc.), either in Word or Google Docs. We will review submissions and look to select candidates to have a short Zoom call with to talk about expectations, availability, etc. for the upcoming year in the coming weeks.

We look forward to hearing from you!
