Dallas Stars Prospect Matej Paulovic Released From His OHL Contract

Matej Paulovic was drafted by the Dallas Stars at the 2013 NHL Draft in the fifth round. He was a bit of an odd pick and was mostly unknown when he was drafted.

Paulovic was drafted out of Sweden last year but left his Swedish club at the end of the last season. He was drafted in the CHL Import Draft and joined the Peterborough Petes for this season. He was highly productive in the OHL preseason but was invisible during the regular season. He had two goals and two assists in 18 games.

I don’t really know where Paulovic will land and what the Stars will do for his future. If he isn’t seen as being good enough for the Petes then where could he land? He didn’t leave his past Swedish club in a particularly cordial manner so that doesn’t seem a possibility.

It’s something we will have to watch and see what happens.

Here is the press release from the Petes:

Peterborough Petes General Manager Michael Oke announced today that import RW Matej Paulovic has been released from the hockey club.

The 18 year old from Topolcany, Slovakia, was selected by the Peterborough Petes in the 2013 CHL Import Draft from the Farjestad U20s of the Swedish SuperElit league. He recorded two goals and two assists for four points with 4 PIM in 18 games played with the Petes this season.

“I would like to thank Matej for his hard work and time spent here in Peterborough,” said Oke. “We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.”
