Dallas Stars Playoff Hopes Still Alive After Win In Nashville

The Stars won. Jhonas Enroth was great. He became the first Stars backup goalie to start and win a game since March 11, 1000 BCE. The playoff hopes are still alive. This is what happened.

The Stars and Predators played the first period. The Predators scored off of Filip Forsberg’s 24th goal of the season to give him his 60th point.

Other things happened, but overall this was not an ideal first period to watch. The Predators were flat. The Stars were ready to play. The Predators still led 1-0. This is the 2015 season.

The second period was a bit different. The Predators came out firing. Yet, despite this, Travis Moen was able to tie the game 1-1 on a big rebound after he beat three Predators to a puck right in front of goaltender Pekka Rinne.

Tyler Seguin got sprung on a breakaway late in the period off of a home run pass from Jordie Benn. The shot went off of the crossbar after Seguin beat Rinne cleanly. Them’s the breaks.

In the third period Seguin got his revenge. He drilled a one timer on the powerplay past Rinne to put the Stars up 2-1 very early in the period. Mere moments later Colton Sceviour had a big chance. Shortly after Jason Spezza had a few big chances on Rinne, but neither could put the puck in the net.

Sceviour would not be denied for long. Rinne would get out of position at about the eight minute mark on a scramble. The puck dropped right to Sceviour who buried it to make the game 3-1

The 3-1 lead didn’t last very long. After Val Nichushkin almost made it 4-1 the Stars broke down in their own end with less than ten minutes remaining. Ryan Ellis of the Predators ended up alone in the slot to bring the game back to 3-2. The Predators would tie up up late on a James Neal goal from Mike Ribeiro after a communication failure by John Klingberg and Val Nichushkin in their own end.

Cody Eakin was then awarded a penalty shot in overtime after he was chopped down on a breakaway. Eakin was true and the Stars walked away with the full two points to stay alive.

Their next game is April 6th in San Jose.
