Dallas Stars Daily Links: What’s Next for Stars This Offseason?

The Stars have already made a splash this offseason by inking goaltender Ben Bishop to a six-year, $29.5 million contract, but don’t expect that to be the team’s only move. Carolyn Wilke breaks down other options the Stars could pursue this summer.

To start, she takes a look at what else Dallas might do about its goaltending situation—including buy out Antti Niemi.

Going after a guy like Joonas Korpisalo or Philip Grubauer would make a lot of sense. They’re proven backups who have had success when starters go down with injury.

The Stars could also use that late first-round pick on Jake Oettinger, the current starter for Boston University. While he’s not ready to step into the NHL right away, it would at least give them a backup plan for their … backup plan.

Wilke also speculates on what general manager Jim Nill could do to help the blue line.

Again, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Nill make a bold trade to address this concern. Someone like Josh Manson, who will likely be unprotected by the Anaheim Ducks in the expansion draft, would be a fantastic add, as Klingberg and Manson’s current partner, Hampus Lindholm, both love to play a more offensive game.

If the Ducks shop a defenseman, the Dallas Stars could also become a suitor. Having acquired and signed Ben Bishop as their new starting goaltender, the next priority for GM Jim Nill is bolstering his defense.
