Back to reality: The Stars make it a series in Sin City and look to string some wins together.

The Dallas Stars are back in the game. A 3-2 overtime victory in Vegas has jump-started their playoffs quest. Now comes the question of how to build on that momentum.

Dallas Morning News sports writer Lia Assimakopoulos is on the road with the Stars, so she got a good close look at how the team started clicking in T-Mobile Arena. She wrote about it in her latest piece for SportsDayDFW:

“I think we’re getting an idea of how we have to play in this series in order to have success,” Stars coach Pete DeBoer said Sunday.

Dallas had a 79.21 expected goals percentage in Game 3 as well as a 46-34 shot advantage and 27-4 high-danger scoring opportunity advantage. According to MoneyPuck’s “Deserve to Win O’Meter,” the Stars win Game 3 over 90% of the time in 1000 game simulation.

Even more, it appears that the Stars may have found more than one way to solve netminder Logan Thompson:

“I thought he was exceptional,” DeBoer said. “But any good teams this time of year, you’re probably getting exceptional goaltending or they wouldn’t be here.”

It’ll be nearly impossible for Thompson to perform to that level each night — and difficult to maintain the success he’s had in the first three games, especially as Dallas continues to improve. Vegas looked its best in Game 1 and has regressed each game. Dallas, on the other hand, is taking obvious strides.
