Dallas Stars Daily Links: Tyler Seguin On Offseason Moves (and That Stanley Cup Window)

Like many of his teammates, Tyler Seguin has been hanging out at StarCenter ice making some kids’ days (or summers, or lives) as a guest coach at Dallas Stars Summer Hockey Camp. But he took a moment away from “flying around for two hours” to talk with Mark Stepneski about the upcoming World Cup of Hockey and the Stars’ offseason roster moves.

Not the least of those moves was the blockbuster contract for Segs’ linemate and Super Best Friend, Jamie Benn. Tyler talked with Jamie after the mega-deal was final:

“Just said congrats and save some for the rest of us,” Seguin said with a smile. “I think he’s deserved everything. I think he’s a great leader, a great teammate and obviously a great linemate, so I was definitely excited for him.”

He also says “our window just opened” for the Stars as Stanley Cup competitors, and discussed what that means for the new, younger roster:

“It’s huge. You can talk about playoffs all you want, but until you win a game, until you lose a game, until you win a series, until you lose a series, you don’t know that taste and what it’s like,” he said. “That’s the kind of stuff that drives you, gaining that experience. Obviously, a couple years ago we made the playoffs, but when you look at our team, this was the first real run a lot of guys have had, so that’s good for us and something we want to build on.”

And speaking of the oncoming season, the Dallas Stars and Texas Stars will once again meet in the Austin area for preseason training. This year’s camp will take place Friday-Sunday, Sept. 23-25, 2016 in H-E-B Center (formerly Cedar Park Center).
