Well that could have gone better. I didn’t input much of my personal thoughts on the Dallas Stars – Toronto Maple Leafs game in the recap, but let’s just say I was not very happy. Also I really, really hate backup goalies.
Here’s Ken Hitchcock’s take on the game:
Aside from the Benn-Seguin-Radulov line which played a pretty heavy game, Hitch said that there were too many other players who played too light. pic.twitter.com/qz0Ek4nvWe

And the captain:

Of course John Klingberg has a forgettable night when the national media might actually be paying attention:

Stars Stories
Don’t take this as “he will play against Los Angeles,” but:
Dillon Heatherington says he is heading back to Cedar Park for the weekend, play with the @TexasStars and then back to the NHL and Tuesday nights game vs the Kings

Speaking of Cedar Park, Stephen Meserve of 100 Degree Hockey fame has a nice story on Texas goalie Landon Bow:
Landon Bow may still be an AHL rookie, but he’s making his mark with the @TexasStars. #AHLOTB → https://t.co/hxBwKjxqTH pic.twitter.com/HtHznGWGPu

To further lighten up the mood, here’s a fun Jamie Benn interview, courtesy of Scott Burnside: [NHL]
Additionally, while this doesn’t include last night’s loss, the Stars are looking a lot better than where they were at the start of the season:

Central Census
Every NHL team played in a game last night (well except for the Kings that is, since odd number and whatnot), which means I have a lot of score updates for you:
- Rookie Alex DeBrincat scored a hat trick as the Chicago Blackhawks crushed the Detroit Red Wings 5-1. [Second City Hockey]
- Meanwhile the Minnesota Wild were on the other end of a lopsided score, falling 6-3 to the Pittsburgh Penguins. [Hockey Wilderness]
- The Nashville Predators had much better luck, shutting out the New Jersey Devils 3-0. [On the Forecheck]
- The Winnipeg Jets and the Anaheim Ducks meanwhile went to overtime, where the Ducks won 4-3 in the shootout. [Anaheim Calling]
- And finally, in the only matchup between rivals, the St. Louis Blues prevailed 3-1 over the Colorado Avalanche. [Mile High Hockey]/
Speaking of the Avalanche, Nathan MacKinnon is getting a lot of Hart Trophy love, but he’s far from the only breakout star recently:
Nathan MacKinnon is the star, but don’t forget about Mikko Rantanen in Colorado, says @THNRyanKennedy – https://t.co/WmbIzYj8Ja

The All-Star game is this weekend, but not everyone originally picked could make it. Here are the replacements so far: [NBC Sports]
Brad Marchand was suspended five games for a nasty elbowing, but should he have gotten more? [The Hockey News]
It seems no one likes replay challenges these days, including the same people call for them:

Craig Morgan dives into the, uhh, interesting personality that is Columbus Blue Jackets coach John Tortorella. [FanRag Sports]
On the topic of “interesting,” this decision by the Vegas Golden Knights certainly qualifies:

The CHL Top Prospects game was yesterday, and Filip Zadina shined as he makes his case to be picked at #2 behind Dahlin. [Sportsnet]
Speaking of Europeans in Canada, Don Cherry made headlines with a very Don Cherry-like opinion:

Finally, Russia has announced which players will be going to the Olympics to play for “Not-Russia.” Too bad Valeri Nichuskin is banned for unknown reasons. [NBC Olympics]
