Dallas Stars Daily Links: How Scott White Has Transformed the Texas Stars

Ever since the Dallas Stars moved their AHL affiliate from Iowa to Cedar Park in 2009, the AHL squad has been a rather consistent recipe for success. The team made the Calder Cup Finals in 2010, won it all in 2014, and have made the finals this year for the third time since the move.

A big part of that is thanks to Stars Assistant General Manager Scott White, who has been in charge of the Texas Stars ever since the move and has found ways to constantly get quality players on the ice:

White’s biggest strength might be finding players in strange places. Travis Morin joined the team as a tryout player in White’s first season and is still a key in this playoff run. White had two late adds this season in Sheldon Dries (Western Michigan) and Joel L’Esperance (Michigan Tech), and both have added the depth needed to get Texas to the Finals.

White’s done such a good job with Texas that one can’t help but hope he never leaves the organization. However, it might be only a matter of time before White gets whisked away by some NHL team looking for a new GM:

“He’s a guy who, down the road, is going to get consideration to be a general manager in the NHL,” Nill said.

”If you look, we’ve had some great coaches, but it’s three different coaches and one GM who has been to the Calder Cup Final three times,” Janko said. “That bodes well for him and where he is going to go in his career. It’s been great to watch him work and see how much work he puts in. I can learn a lot from him.”
