Last night’s 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets was unfortunately nothing new for the Dallas Stars: it marks the sixth consecutive loss against the club that started back on October 27, 2016 (the Stars last beat the Jets two days prior to that – October 25, 2016).
Needless to say, head coach Ken Hitchcock was not pleased with the performance:
Hitch not happy with performance. Said Benn put team on his back, but overall disappointing start.

The loss stings a little bit more when you realize that the Stars have now won just a single game against the Central Division so far, which was against the Colorado Avalanche:
Final: Jets 4, Stars 1
Stars 8-7-0 on the season and 1-5-0 vs. Central Division.

Here’s what the captain had to say about the tough loss:

In case you didn’t catch the game, there was another Jamie lining up at wing: the Stars elected to play Jamie Oleksiak as a forward instead of recalling one from the AHL. [SportsDay DFW]
Oleksiak barely played, though, with Hitchcock making a comment that you typically don’t like to hear about one of your defensemen:
Oleksiak had 7 shifts for 4:44 TOI at forward. Hitch said he was ok, but also said he’s a player that is hard to play when trailing

In brighter news, Gemel Smith is making the most of his time in Dallas, earning praise from the head coach. [SportsDay DFW]
I honestly prefer Derek’s piece (I’m not being biased, I swear), but Mark Stepneski gives us his own prospect update. [NHL]
Around the League
In case you haven’t heard yet, the Avalanche, Nashville Predators, and Ottawa Senators were involved in a huge three way deal involving Matt Duchene and Kyle Turris. [NHL]
Here’s a summary of the blockbuster move:
Duchene to OTT. Turris to NASH with a 6×6 extension. COL gets Girard, Kamenev, Bowers, Hammond, a 1st (OTT), a 2nd (NASH) and a 3rd (OTT).

Meanwhile three writers were asked who won the trade, with two voting for the Avalanche and the third for the Predators. [The Hockey Writers]
Though they might not have ended up with Duchene himself, the Predators’ acquisition of Turris shows that they’re going all in this year. [The Hockey News]
Their relationship might have been strained towards the end (and that’s putting it lightly), but Duchene had nothing but good things to say about the Avalanche after the trade:

If you think I link too much of the new, budding bromance between Ryan Reaves and Phil Kessel, you’re probably right. But that doesn’t mean I’ll stop:
Postgame interview, job interview– doesn’t matter.

Finally…
The Stars might not have won last night, but they’re still fighting to beat cancer. Here’s Trevor Strader performing the national anthem from last night’s game in honor of father, Dave:
