2013-2014 Dallas Stars Roster Analysis: Jamie Benn, Tyler Seguin Scoring Fiends in Week 7

In this weekly feature, I look at where individuals are trending to in this handy-dandy table format. The analysis of each person is done solely by me and my observations — sometimes I do it by committee with other writers, but I’ve got the ultimate say. So if you disagree on any of these, feel free to tell me in the comments! Who doesn’t like a good ol’ hockey debate?

The Dallas Stars extended their road win streak to six straight when they beat the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks. They returned home to play the New York Rangers, and fell just short of pulling out a point on home ice.

Jamie BENN
3gp, 1-6-7, +3

Comments: Jamie Benn continued making a case for his inclusion on Team Canada and tied Dallas Stars franchise records. All in a week’s work.

Jordie BENN
3gp, 0-0-0, -1

Comments: Jordie Benn didn’t have a spectacular week, but he didn’t have a terrible week either. Steadying presence on the backend continues.

Alex CHIASSON
3gp, 1-1-2, +1

Comments: Alex Chiasson returned to the scoring column when he potted a pretty goal against the Rangers. He had an assist in the game before, so his scoring slump seems to have been busted.

Erik COLE
3gp, 1-1-2, +1

Comments: Erik Cole seems to have found his game again this week, scoring the game winning goal in Vancouver.

Kevin CONNAUTON
0gp

Comments: Kevin Connauton still hasn’t played a game since his NHL debut, and just returned from his conditioning stint in Austin.

Trevor DALEY
3gp, 0-0-0, +5

Comments: Trevor Daley didn’t get to extend his scoring streak, but he was on the right side of many goals this week. His pinching into the zone has resulted in some good offensive chances.

Brenden DILLON
3gp, 0-1-1, +1

Comments: Brenden Dillon continued to make some plays where Kari Lehtonen had to help cover up for turnovers or puck protection gaffes from the sophomore defenseman.

Cody EAKIN
3gp, 0-3-3, +1

Comments: Cody Eakin made one sweet pass this week for an absolute laser of a goal. He’s been involved in quite a bit of offense this past week.

Dan ELLIS
0gp

Comments: Dan Ellis did not get the start many thought he could have, and it’s unclear when he may get game action again. The schedule is favorable to continue riding Lehtonen, but is that the best thing for the goaltending duo?

Vernon FIDDLER
3gp, 0-0-0, +1

Comments: Vernon Fiddler continued being a big key in the penalty killing department this week.

Ryan GARBUTT
3gp, 1-0-1, +4

Comments: Ryan Garbutt had a goal in the offensive explosion against Calgary, and has been good on the defensive end. The penalty he took against New York led to a goal against, though.

Alex GOLIGOSKI
3gp, 0-3-3, +5

Comments: Alex Goligoski had some really good defensive plays, while doubling his season point totals with three assists versus Calgary. His plus/minus has come a long way lately and he’s now only a -1 on the season.

Sergei GONCHAR
3gp, 0-2-2, Even

Comments: Sergei Gonchar also doubled his season’s point production last week. Being separated has done wonders for Goligoski and Gonchar.

Shawn HORCOFF
3gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Shawn Horcoff has done a decent job staying out of his second home, the penalty box, this week.

Dustin JEFFREY
1gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Dustin Jeffrey was claimed off of waivers this week and made his Dallas Stars debut. He looked good in limited ice time.

Kari LEHTONEN
3gp, 2-1-0, 2.33 GAA, .920 SV%

Comments: Kari Lehtonen continued his stellar play this week, but the two goals allowed against New York in the span of a minute weren’t of the variety we’re used to seeing Lehtonen let in.

Valeri NICHUSHKIN
3gp, 1-2-3, +4

Comments: Valeri Nichushkin scored his second goal of the year in a pretty way and was a big part of Benn and Seguin’s offensive explosion against the Flames. He’s a great fit on the top line right now.

Rich PEVERLEY
3gp, 0-0-0, -1

Comments: Rich Peverley cooled off this week as he slotted in with different linemates. He’s continuing to put up shots and he’s killing it in the faceoff circle.

Stephane ROBIDAS
3gp, 2-0-2, +1

Comments: Stephane Robidas is the third defenseman on the Stars to double their point production in the past week. He’s had two really great goals also.

Antoine ROUSSEL
3gp, 0-1-1, +1

Comments: Antoine Roussel was just a goal short of the Gordie Howe hat trick in Calgary, as he put up an assist and a fight in the winning effort.

Tyler SEGUIN
3gp, 4-2-6, +3

Comments: Tyler Seguin showed this week exactly why Dallas made the trade that he did. Stars fans are salivating at the idea of Benn-Seguin-Nichushkin together for years to come.

Ray WHITNEY
0gp

Comments: Ray Whitney is still recovering from a lower-body injury that has kept him out of the lineup for the past two weeks.
