Defending Big D Seeking Contributors For Next Season

What a wild ride this season has been.

It’s crazy to think that it’s been more than a calendar year since the start of the Dallas Stars’ year. In that time, Defending Big D generated about 800 unique posts to tell the story of this season.

We covered training camp battles to watch for, young prospects to keep an eye on, Texas Stars reports, injuries and roster transactions, games, practices, morning skates, press conferences, announcements, and a Stanley Cup Final run.

There was a Winter Classic and an unprecedented pause on the sports world, a very different playoff format with unique access to the team and players and a head coach that was suddenly fired for reasons that didn’t pertain to the on-ice performance of the team. Some of the lowest lows and some of the highest highs of the franchise was encapsulated in this year, captured by our words and thoughts unique to the Defending Big D community: free, never pay-walled or requiring a subscription, and from the perspective of those that have a vested interest in the direction of the team.

We hold ourselves to the highest standards, because the Dallas market, while they love a good winner, will always be Dallas Cowboys country. It’s important to us that a free, independent outlet covers the team consistently by showing up throughout the season. Because not many outlets here in town will provide that coverage outside of the big moments, and covering the team on a consistent basis provides a better context to evaluate the team in.

This offseason is likely to be a sprint more than the marathon we are used to. The draft is less than a week away, and free agency comes right on its heels. The league still has to determine a return to play plan for a season that will start at the oddest time we’ve ever witnessed, under circumstances that are still impacting every citizen’s day-to-day, with a global pandemic continuing to limit what is safe to do for the foreseeable future.

We’re always striving to add unique, diverse voices to the coverage of the Stars provided here at Defending Big D. Though it will be a crazy offseason, and we don’t know what next year will look like, we’d like to take the opportunity the pause in game coverage provides us to expand our contributors and staff. We’re trying something different this time. We don’t have a set idea of what kind of role we want to fill. Instead, we want to hear from those interested in joining us what your thoughts are, where your true passion lies.

If you are interested, please fill out this interest form so we can get to know a little about you. Inquiries regarding the interest form can be sent to dbdwriters@gmail.com. After we get responses from those interested, someone on staff will be reaching out to understand a little more about your desires and expectations as we continue the process to add to our team here.

We hope you’ll consider joining one of the best non-mainstream outlets in hockey.
