Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet and 590 The Fan in Toronto is reporting this morning that Derek Roy of the Dallas Stars has been traded to the Vancouver Canucks for a 2nd round pick and a prospect yet to be named.

Media gathered in Frisco at this hour say that Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk is in “high level meetings” with the Stars’ brain trust, including Mark Recchi, Jim Lites and possibly Bob Gainey.
This news comes just a short while after it was learned that the Dallas Stars have informed RW Jaromir Jagr that he will likely be traded in the next 26 hours.
We’ll continue to update this page as details become clearer and this gets verified by a few sources more.
The prospect in question will tell us what kind of win this trade is, but it’s become clear that Derek Roy intends to hit the free agent market in July no matter where he ends up – So this is a rental, and prices on rentals aren’t always what everyone would like them to be.
Some feel that Roy’s value may have dropped in recent weeks with his play, culminating in a demotion to the third line in weekend action over the holiday. If this report is true, the Dallas Stars will have turned Steve Ott into 22 points from Roy, a 2nd round pick and an unknown prospect at this point. History will decide if it was worth a stab to fix their second-line center issue.

Hockey Prospectus ranked Connauton as the Canucks 4th best prospect in September of 2012. [LINK]
Defending Big D frequent contributor Jeff Angus says “Connauton is a great skater with a big shot. Still a work in progress defensively. Has stagnated a bit w/ development.”
He’s a 23 year-old in the AHL with 25 points in 60 game this season, which seems underwhelming at first glance, but it’s been suggested that his offensive game suffered while focusing on defensive zone play this season. With Joe Morrow and the AHL ranks filled already, or soon to be, with Patrik Nemeth, Jamie Oleksiak, Jordie Benn, Jyrki Jokipakka, John Klinberg, Troy Vance and others, the Stars have to like their chances at finding a couple of success stories in there somewhere.
