Please Welcome Derek Neumeier To The DBD Team!

It is my pleasure to announce the addition of a new writer to the staff here at Defending Big D, as Derek Neumeier will be joining our ranks. Derek has been a long-time reader and active contributor in the comments and has written some very good stuff for The Hockey Writers, which has also gotten the attention of DallasStars.com.

Derek will be covering a number of topics for DBD and we’re incredibly excited to have his contributions featured here and on SB Nation. I’ll allow him to introduce himself a bit better than I can:

Hey Defending Big D community!

My name is Derek Neumeier, and I’ll be the newest contributing writer for the site.

Despite growing up in the winter wastelands of The Great White North, my love for the Dallas Stars has burned as bright as the Texas sun, so it’s an absolute honor for me to become a part of DBD.

My uncle, Troy Neumeier, played his junior hockey alongside Mike Modano with the WHL’s Prince Albert Raiders, so I’ve followed the Stars since as far back as I can remember. As someone that’s always loved the sport of hockey, as well as the art of writing, I’ve decided to try and combine the two into pursuing the career of my dreams as a hockey journalist. I recently graduated from Mount Royal University, in Calgary, Alberta, with a Bachelor’s of Communication in Journalism degree in April of 2012, and I’ve covered the Dallas Stars, their AHL affiliate and the team’s prospects for a website called The Hockey Writers since summer of 2011.

I’ve been following DBD as a fan for years, under the alias “neumania99” (the 99 representing the greatest season in Stars history) and am now thrilled at the opportunity to contribute as a writer. I believe that the community of writers and fans here is one of the tightest in the league, and I can’t wait to help provide everyone with more insight and communication fodder about the team we all love (whenever they get back on that dang ice, anyways!)
