Happy New Year from Defending Big D!

If you’ve made it home from the parking lots around the American Airlines Center, and by some of the reports from last night, I’m not sure that’s entirely true even now, then you’re several hours into what will hopefully be an healthy and happy new year.

The Dallas Stars did their part last night by ending last year with a bang, not a whimper, with a 3-2 defeat of the Los Angeles Kings, and they will try to start off 2014 with a bang tomorrow against those hated Montreal Canadiens.

As for the NHL, they’re playing the only outdoor game of the year at matters (and what really should be the only outdoor one period) this afternoon. It’s going to be a slow day around the cite as the DBD writers spend some time with our families, so we’ll have some threads up for that.

But if you choose to spend today somewhere other than the internet (the horrors), we’d like to extend our own wishes for a great new year today and beyond. It’s going to be a great sports year in general – the World Cup over the summer for soccer fans and the Winter Olympics with something for everyone. Here’s hoping the Stars will make it that much nicer by continuing their march up the standings.

Happy New Year, y’all!
