Dallas Stars Ups & Downs: Week 16

So now that the Dallas Stars players and coaches (save for two of them) have had a nice break where they’ve been able to relax and heal up some nicks and bruises, we close the book on the NHL All-Star weekend and turn our attention to the month of February. But not quite before we take a look back at the previous week (or so) worth of Stars action where if you recall they had a tough go of things in Canada before returning home to salvage some respect back.

As such, a lot of players took a hit in this week’s ups and downs…

Goalies Trend Notes
Kari Lehtonen https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png?w=640 Going to cut Kari some slack here because one can argue that the goals he allowed against Vancouver were all quite difficult. He did rebound nicely against Edmonton as well.
Andrew Raycroft https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png?w=640 Raycroft had “one of those nights” against the Flames where he seemed to be fighting the puck every time it was shot at him.
Defensemen
Trevor Daley
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png?w=640 Trevor kept up his good play even through the muck of Calgary and Vancouver.
Mark Fistric
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png?w=640 Struggled badly as he always seems to do against much quicker teams.
Nicklas Grossman
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png?w=640 Scored a second goal of the season against Calgary and remarkably was a plus player in both games against Flames and Canucks.
Matt Niskanen
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png?w=640 His ice time was reduced and he seemed to play better because of it. Winning that fight versus Fraser was a tone setter for the game against Edmonton.
Stephane Robidas
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png?w=640 Stars rely on him to lead the defensive unit in all aspects of the game including penalty kill – and the PK was brutal last week.
Karlis Skrastins
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png?w=640 Was caught out of position quite a few times especially against the Flames.
Forwards
Krys Barch
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png?w=640 22 PIMs against the Oilers and 10 of those were because he mocked Zack Stortini‘s fighting style – something most hockey fans do nightly.
Jamie Benn https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png?w=640 We all loves us some Jamie Benn, but going minus four before being knocked out of the Vancouver games for a very tough week.
Adam Burish
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png?w=640 Hopefully got plenty of rest and is ready to block more shots.
Loui Eriksson https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png?w=640 Two goals, two assists and one of those goals was the game winner? Don’t worry Loui, you’ll always be our All-Star MVP!
Aaron Gagnon
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png?w=640 Played in the Calgary and Edmonton games and looked good in a third line role at times.
Jamie Langenbrunner
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png?w=640 Starting to fit in nicely with the team and the points are starting to roll in because of it.
Travis Morin
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png?w=640 A decent debut against Edmonton. Sadly missed playing in the AHL all-star game as he’ll probably get one more NHL game later this week.
Brenden Morrow
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png?w=640 In case you missed it, Worley had a fantastic writeup on the recent greatness of the captain.
James Neal
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png?w=640 Had a decent week and we like the fact he’s sticking up for Richards, but that instigating with a visor was a tough call to take.
Steve Ott
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png?w=640 Ott’s production has slowed to a craw as of late.
Mike Ribeiro
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png?w=640 Best Dallas player on the ice versus Calgary, the points streak sadly came to an end in Vancouver, but he started a new one the next game versus the Oilers.
Brad Richards
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217733/up.png?w=640 Goal-of-the-week type stuff against Vancouver was the lone bright spot.. Unless you count the All-Star game of course.
Brian Sutherby
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217737/down.png?w=640 The coaches are giving him chances to earn a full time spot, but it’s just not happening for him.
Tom Wandell
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png?w=640 Struggled against the Flames then was knocked out of the Canucks game as the injury bug keeps taking him out.
Francis Wathier
https://i0.wp.com/assets.sbnation.com/assets/217757/dash.png?w=640 Not a great first NHL game of the season for him, but on the plus side he did take Morin’s place in the AHL All-Star game.
