Dallas Stars season grades: Loui Eriksson

We continue our series of grading each player that played a role for the Stars in the 2009-2010 season. At the end of each feature, you get to select the overall grade for each individual player. This is something we’ll continue doing each season, and is a tool we can use to determine a player’s progress year by year.

Key Stat: Tied with James Neal for the team lead in game winning goals with four.

The Good: Eriksson’s 13.6 shooting percentage ranked 2nd behind Steve Ott among the highest shooting percentages on the team.

The Bad: Loui’s goal production dropped from 36 in 2008-09 to 29 last season which caused his shooting percentage to also drop seven points. Not to mention, he also had his struggles the shootout going 3 for 9 last season.

The Bottom Line: In spite of the drop in goal scoring production, Loui helped to make up for it by putting up 15 more assists than in the 2008-09 campaign to post a career high in points with 71, an improvement by 8 over his point total of 63 in the previous season.

Still, he has one of the best wrist shots on the team. As such, I’d bet Crow would like to see his point balance shifted way more towards the goal scoring end than the assist end.

The Vote: Rate Eriksson on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the best) based on his performance relative to his potential and your expectations for the season – if he had the best year you could have imagined him having, give him a 10; if he more or less played as you expected he would, give him a 5 or a 6; if he had the worst year you could have imagined him having, give him a 1.
