In this weekly feature, I look at where individuals are trending to in this handy-dandy table format. The analysis of each person is done solely by me and my observations — sometimes I do it by committee with other writers, but I’ve got the ultimate say. So if you disagree on any of these, feel free to tell me in the comments! Who doesn’t like a good ol’ hockey debate?
The week started of kind of bad, and then the Dallas Stars won two games in convincing fashion. How did the individuals play in that span, though?
Jamie BENN |
Comments: Jamie Benn has a four game goal streak going, but that penalty in overtime last night was killer. |
Jordie BENN |
Comments: Jordie Benn wasn’t particularly noticeable this past week. As a defenseman, that is not a criticism. He’s taking care of his own end pretty well. |
Alex CHIASSON |
Comments: Alex Chiasson had a really nice setup for a goal last night, and he wins a lot of battles along the boards. |
Erik COLE |
Comments: Erik Cole seemed to have a lot of pep in his step last night at the beginning of the game. He was rewarded being in on one of the goals scored. |
Kevin CONNAUTON |
Comments: The Kevin Connauton hasn’t been back in the lineup since Aaron Rome came back. |
Trevor DALEY |
Comments: Trevor Daley had a rough outing versus the Avalanche, but his play against Pittsburgh contributed to shutting down one of the top teams in the league. |
Brenden DILLON |
Comments: Brenden Dillon had a quite strong week I felt; his defensive game was good these past three games. |
Cody EAKIN |
Comments: I guess mentioning the point streak caused it to disappear…sorry Cody Eakin. |
Dan ELLIS |
Comments: Dan Ellis still hasn’t played a game since January 12th. Surely he’s going to have to step into one before the Olympic break, right? I’d go with Anaheim. Call it a gut feeling. |
Vernon FIDDLER |
Comments: Vernon Fiddler hasn’t really stood out in either a good or bad way so…. |
Ryan GARBUTT |
Comments: Ryan Garbutt only had one penalty this week. Improvement! |
Alex GOLIGOSKI |
Comments: Alex Goligoski has seven assists in his last five games. That’s about 30% of his points in the season in his last five games. Continue rolling, please. |
Sergei GONCHAR |
Comments: Sergei Gonchar got a game winning goal (and his second of the season) against his old team the Pittsburgh Penguins. |
Shawn HORCOFF |
Comments: Shawn Horcoff, there is a new chant in the AAC just because of you — a “You can’t do that” was heard several times after opposing players went for their two minutes of shame. |
Dustin JEFFREY |
Comments: Dustin Jeffrey is back with the team for the road trip, but since he’s gone through waivers it’s possible he goes back to get some games during the Olympic break. |
Kari LEHTONEN |
Comments: Kari Lehtonen followed up his impressive game against Toronto with a stellar shutout of the Penguins. His last two games he’s looked a little more pedestrian, but the team defense in front of him did their part to contribute to it. This team needs better than sub-.900 goaltending though. |
Valeri NICHUSHKIN |
Comments: Valeri Nichushkin is just so fun to watch. He has all the want in the world. Once he figures out how to finis what that starts, the league better watch out. |
Rich PEVERLEY |
Comments: Rich Peverley has a gaudy 68.5% faceoff percentage in the last five games. That’s very, very nice. |
Stephane ROBIDAS |
Comments: Still sending all the good wishes for a speedy recovery to Stephane Robidas. Reportedly Robidas is only about three weeks behind Steven Stamkos‘ recovery timeline. Not too bad for a guy on the other side of 30, eh? |
Aaron ROME |
Comments: Has Aaron Rome turned the injury corner? Let’s hope so. |
Antoine ROUSSEL |
Comments: Antoine Roussel seems to be frustrated, and the refs aren’t letting him take that out on anyone’s face lately. |
Tyler SEGUIN |
Comments: Tyler Seguin didn’t make me pay a lot to Pensburgh’s charity, but he more than made up for it with three goals in his last two games and six points in total this week. That late-game tying goal last night to at least get a point was entertainment of a high caliber. Oh, and did I mention he just turned 22 today? |
Ray WHITNEY |
Comments: Ray Whitney is part of a fourth line that hasn’t really been all that noticeable recently. |
