A Quick Guide To Where The Dallas Stars Prospects

As the new season approaches it is time for a reminder of where the Stars prospects will be playing this season. Theres been some movement since the end of last season and some new prospects joining the organisation so who is where?

First up is the Western Hockey League (WHL). The Stars have one new prospect, through the draft, in the WHL this year, Cole Ully, but also defenseman Dmitry Sinitsyn has signed up with the Regina Pats and has left the NCAA. Matej Stransky and Taylor Peters (UFA signing) have graduated out of the WHL into the pros.

In the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) the Stars have quite a few prospects with only one leaving their ranks. Niagara IceDog Brett Ritchie has graduated into the pros and will play in Austin for the Texas Stars. The Dallas Stars however drafted three new prospects out of the OHL: Jason Dickinson, Remi Elie and Nick Paul. They will be joined by fellow 2013 pick Matej Paulovic who joins the Peterbourgh Petes after being selected by them in the Import Draft.

Brampton Battalion has moved to North Bay and has changed their name. It is still the same organisation however. Cody Payne was traded from the Plymouth Whalers at the end of the season to Saginaw Spirit.

The QMJHL saw one new prospect join it this draft year. The Stars still don’t have near the numbers of prospects in the Q as the other two leagues which represent the CHL. The Prince Edward Island Rockets have been renamed the Charlotte Town Rockets.

There are only two Stars prospects left in the NCAA after Dmitry Sinitsyn left U-Mass Lowell for the Regina Pats. Curtis McKenzie has finished his four years and is playing with the Texas Stars after signing a two year entry level contract. Unfortunately the Stars other NCAA prospect, who finished last year, Scott Winkler, sadly passed away at his Norwegian home during the summer.

The Stars have four prospects currently playing in the Swedish leagues. None of them turned professional but decided to remain in Sweden for another year. Matej Paulovic did play in Sweden but after his contract ended went to play in the OHL. Ludwig Bystrom has signed with Farjestad after playing in MODO last season with limited ice time. John Klingberg has returned to the team he was drafted out of, Frolunda, after a brief stint with Jokerit (SM-Liiga) and Skelleftea (SHL).
