Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Caamano, Martenet And Hintz Have Impressive Weeks

NOTE: This update was written before Sunday evening’s games.

North American Juniors and NCAA

OHL

Nicholas Caamano scored five goals through three games this week for the Flint Firebirds.

He scored his first goal during a 5-4SO loss to Saginaw on Thursday and followed it up with a pair of two goal games.

On Saturday he had two goals as the Firebirds lost 4-3 in overtime to the Kitchener Rangers. Caamano scored the first through a tip in front of the net on the powerplay and added the second with a nice drive at the net.

Nick Caamano had a pair of goals when the Firebirds lost 4-3 against the Windsor Spitfires on Sunday.

Caamano is currently just under a point per game pace with 62 points through 64 games this season.

The Firebirds clinched a place in the OHL playoffs this week.

Chris Martenet had an excellent week with the Ottawa 67s, finishing with four points in three games for the hulking defenseman.

He had a pair of games with a goal and an assist to his name. Firstly during a 5-4OT loss to Peterborough on Thursday he scored on the powerplay and had an impressive assist when he managed to pass the puck from deep in his own zone to a breaking forward.

On Friday, Martenet got the game winning goal during a 7-0 rout of the Oshawa Generals and added an assist on their second goal of the game.

WHL

Ondraj Vala reached the 25 point mark in his second season in the WHL this week.

He had a pair of assists as the Kamloops Blazers beat the Vancouver Giants 4-3 on Saturday.

NCAA

Joseph Cecconi had a good week for Michigan, finishing with a pair of assists this weekend.

He got both assists during a 3-2 win against Penn State on Saturday.

Michigan will be facing off against Penn State near weekend in the Big Ten quarterfinal.

Rhett Gardner and the University of North Dakota advanced through the NCHC quarterfinals this weekend with a pair of wins against St Cloud State.

He scored a goal during their 5-2 win on Friday and added an assist in Saturday’s 6-5OT win.

RIley Tufte had a pair of goals as the University of Minnesota Duluth advanced through the NCHC quarterfinal against Miami.

He got both goals during the 5-4OT win on Friday, including the goal that sent the game to overtime.

Colton Point’s season is over after Colgate lost their deciding game against Princeton last Sunday. He didn’t play in the 2-1 loss.

Europe

Sweden

Niklas Hansson played only one game this week and was a scratch for the other game HV71 had on the schedule.

He played only eight minutes in the game he did play and finished pointless. It has been a disappointing season for Hansson having taken a step back from his performance last season.

HV71 finished second in the SHL so Hansson will have a chance to play in the postseason.

John Nyberg played two games for Frolunda and finished pointless through both of them. He averaged 19 minutes through both games.

It has been a good season for Nyberg as he has cemented himself as a reliable defenseman for Frolunda in his first full season with the club at the SHL level.

He finished with 15 points in 49 games and averaged 17 minutes of ice time per game over the entire regular season.

Frolunda finished third in the SHL so Nyberg will be seeing postseason action.

Fredrik Karlstom played four games in the Allsvenska playoffs for AIK and has a single goal through those games.

He scored his goal during a 3-2 win against IK Pantern on Wednesday.

AIK currently lead the table to go to a playoff series to win promotion to the SHL.

Finland

Roope Hintz had a hat trick in his second to last regular season game. He got it during a 6-0 drubbing of Assat on Saturday.

He was named first star of the game for his performance. Highlights of the game can be found here.

Aleksi Makela played two games for Assat this week and finished pointless through both games.
