Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Caamano Keeps On Rolling

NOTE: This update was written before games were played on Sunday evening.

North American Juniors and NCAA

OHL

Nick Caamano kept up his hot streak this week, jumping ahead to lead the OHL scoring title race just four games in.

He had a very impressive game against the Sarnia Sting, finishing with two goals and three assists as the Flint Firebirds won 7-4. Unsurprisingly he was named the first start of the game for his five point effort.

Highlights of the game can be found here.

Caamano currently has 11 points through four games so far this season. It is still early days in the OHL season but Caamano has definitely had a hot start to the season. Will he be able to keep it up? We’ll have to see.

Chris Martenet returned to action for the London Knights this week. He finished pointless through the two games that the Knights played.

NCAA

Rhett Gardner played in an exhibition game for the University of North Dakota, finishing with a single assist during a 5-1 win against Manitoba.

Minnesota Duluth, the team that Riley Tufte plays for, played their first game of the season on Saturday. Tufte was not in the opening roster as the coach held him out due to the injury he suffered in the summer.

Europe

Sweden

Niklas Hansson got his first point of the season this week for HV71. He got the assist as HV71 were given a 7-1 drubbing at the hands of Skelleftea.

Hansson played 19 minutes during the loss, an increase on his ice time from his first two games.

John Nyberg has yet to register a point in the SHL so far this season but he’s continuing to get a reasonable amount of ice time for a young defenseman. He’s averaged about 14 minutes per game for Frolunda.

Fredrik Karlstrom continues his point per game pace for AIK in the Allsvenska. He added another two assists through two games this week.

He now has seven points through seven games. He got both assists as AIK lost to MODO 5-3.

Despite his impressive numbers he is still playing with limited ice time. He’s only averaging around 12 minutes per game and often spends his time on AIK’s third line.

This isn’t a huge surprise as he is a young player, only 18, playing in an adult league. If he keeps up this pace though Karlstrom might be given more ice time and a bigger role.

Jakob Stenqvist added another assist to his total during his one game this week.

He got a primary assist on an equal strength goal as MODO lost 3-2 to Timra U20. He now has five assists through eight games this season for MODO J20.

Stenqvist is tied for the lead in defensive scoring for MODO.

Finland

Roope Hintz remained out and did not play this week.

Aleksi Makela played two games this week for Assat and went pointless. He played an average of ten minutes per game.

Miro Karjalainen has been called up to the Liiga and had one points through four games. He has averaged just under ten minutes per game.

He got a goal on Tuesday during a 2-1 win against KalPa.

Slovakia

Matej Paulovic played two games this week and finished pointless through both of them.
