Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Memorial Cup Tournament Begins

Memorial Cup:

The Memorial Cup Tournament began on Friday involving two Dallas Stars prospects: Jason Dickinson and Gemel Smith.

The teams that will be playing in the tournament are: Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL Champions), Guelph Storm (OHL Champions), Val-d’Or (QMJHL Champions) and London Knights (OHL- Tournament Hosts).

The first game of the tournament was on Friday between the London Knights and the QMJHL Champions, Val-d’Or. Val-D’Or had only clinched its championship on Wednesday before getting on buses to reach London.

It was a low scoring game with the Val-d’Or taking the first win 1-0. Their goaltender, Antoine Bibeau, stood on his head and stopped 51 shots from the OHL powerhouse that is the London Knights.

Anthony Mantha was pretty impressive for Val-d’Or with the lone goal of the game and several posts in tonights game.

The Dallas Stars’ Gemel Smith on the other hand was on the ice for the only goal of the game and finished minus-1. He doesn’t appear to have had a huge impact on the game.

Highlights can be found here.

The second game of the tournament was on Saturday afternoon between the Guelph Storm and the Edmonton Oil Kings. The Guelph Storm would win this game 5-2. Kerby Rychel is doing nothing but score for the Guelph Storm and he finished with two goals in this game.

Jason Dickinson would get an assist on Brock McGinn’s goal but after watching the highlights a lot of credit there has to go to Nick Ebert. Tyler Bertuzzi would score two goals in the third to seal the deal for the Guelph Storm.

Dickinson appears to have had a solid game even if he didn’t really appear on the scoresheet beyond his secondary assist.

The highlights of the game can be found here.

Sunday evenings game between the London Knights and the Edmonton Oil Kings finished 5-2 in favour of the Oil Kings.

Gemel Smith was pencilled in on the third line for London and doesn’t appear to have had much impact on the game. He finished the game on an even plus minus however.

Highlights of the game can be found here.
