Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Lindell Impresses With Jokerit, OHL Pre Season Underway

Its been another week of action in the European Trophy Tournament and there have been a few noticeable performances of Dallas Stars prospects in the OHL Pre Season.

John Klingberg had a single assist in Frolunda’s two games this week. He assisted on the goal by former Stars forward Fabian Brunnstrom during a 7-3 win. He went pointless in Frolunda’s 3-1 loss to ZSC Lions on Saturday. He is currently the third highest scoring defenseman of the tournament with 6 points in 6 games.

Emil Molin was back in the lineup for Brynas, playing on their third line. He had a single goal in their two games this week. The goal came during their 3-2 loss to HC Fribourg-Gotteron.

Esa Lindell rejoined the Jokerit lineup on their top defensive pairing. He was paired with Jokerit’s captain Ossi Väänänen, a stay at home defenseman, and appears to have impressed. He was given extensive powerplay time and had two assists in Jokerit’s two games against HIFK. In this article Jokerit’s coach says he was impressed and that Lindell had earned a place in Jokerit’s next two games. The google translation is a little tricky however but I’m informed that he is receiving some praise from both teammates and his coach.

Here are the highlights of the game where he scored twice. Jokerit are in white, Lindell is number 63, and he assists on the first and fourth goals. Watch out for the particularly nice pass at 2.08 which leads to a Jokerit goal:

Ludwig Bystrom hasn’t played for Farjestad this week as, I believe, he is on international duty for Sweden at the Four Nations tournament. I’m not sure how he has performed however.

Henri Kiviaho played both of KalPa two games this week, both losses. The first game was a 6-5 shootout loss to Pirati Chomutov. He let in 5 goals in on 32 shots. The second was a 6-4 loss to HC Sparta Praha, the final goal being an empty netter. He let in 5 goals in 35 shots.

The highlights from the Pirati Chomutov can be found here, KalPa are in the yellow:

Elsewhere some quick notes from the OHL. Matej Paulovic, the Stars Fifth round pick in 2013, played in his first North American game for the Peterborough Petes of the OHL. He scored twice in his first game, though its only pre season its good to see that he is being productive.

Another 2013 pick, Nick Paul, selected in the fourth round was in some pre season action as well. He was apparently centring the North Bay Battalions first line. If he stays up there he should step forward this season.
