Dallas Stars Prospect Update: John Klingberg Returns, Brett Ritchie Back To His Scoring Ways

After Brett Ritchie snapped his goal and point streak last week he is back and scoring again. John Klingberg has returned to duty after his hip surgery in the summer and Mike Winther put up 5 points in two games for the Prince Albert Raiders.

Radek Faksa has slowed down after his four points in two games last week instead only scoring a goal and an assist in the Rangers last game of three this week. His lack of points is probably due to being used in a defensive manner rather than an inability to connect.

Brett Ritchie is back scoring with four points in two games, a goal an assist in both games this week for the Niagara IceDogs. He is currently fourth in the OHL with 47 points through 30 games. His linemate and New York Islanders prospect Ryan Strome is first in scoring with 59 points through 30 games.

Gemel Smith got three points in three games this week, with two of them coming from a 4-3 shootout against Saginaw Spirit. In that game he earned third star honours.

Matej Stransky has had a good week scoring an average of a point per game. The only game in which he didn’t register a point was when the Red Deer Rebels shut out the Saskatoon Blades on Saturday. The Saskatoon Blades are slowly dragging themselves out of the quagmire they put themselves in after a shocking start to the season.

Mike Winther has had a excellent week scoring 5 points (Four goals, one assist) in two games this week. He continues to impress and is now on over a point per game. In the final game an 8-2 victory against the Regina Pats he scored twice and finished the game +4.

Troy Vance hasn’t had a great week going without a point this week and at a -4 as the Tigres dropped both of their three games this week.

In Europe Ludwig Bystrom continues to play on the third defensive pairing for Modo and averaged about 13minutes of ice time over their three games this week.

Emil Molin scored a single assist this week while playing on Byrnas third line averaging around 13 minutes of ice time over their three games this week.

John Klingberg returns to action but was Skelleftea 7th defenseman for his first game of the season. Though he was dressed he did not touch the ice. Hopefully he will get some significant ice time when he is back to game conditioning.

In the NCAA both Curtis McKenzie and Scott Winkler had excellent weeks. McKenzie scored a goal and two assists over two games, Winkler scored two goals and two assists in one game and went pointless in the next. Alex Guptill missed the first game but played the second, he didn’t register a point. Devin Shore scored a single assist while Dmitry Sinitsyn went pointless in one of U-Mass Lowell’s games and was scratched from the other.
