Dallas Stars Prospect Update: Stars’ OHL Prospects Continue To Impress

Its been another week of mixed performances for the Dallas Stars prospects through the Canadian Junior Leagues and those in Europe. The NCAA also restarted this week with several teams playing their exhibition games.

OHL

Radek Faksa has been relatively impressive this week after scoring three goals in two games. This brings him up to 6 goals on the season. Considering he scored a total of 9 goals the entire of last season for the Kitchener Rangers its fair to say that he appears to be on course to beat that this season. He got second star of the game during a 4-2 loss to Owen Sound Attack. He scored both of the Rangers’ goals.

Gemel Smith is keeping himself joint on top of the OHL point leaderboard (as of writing this) with 14 points in his first 7 games. He got a goal and three assists this week. When facing off against fellow prospect, Radek Faksa, he registered two assists on the way to their 4-2 win. He would earn the third star of the game.

Jason Dickinson had a quieter week with only a single goal through two games. He got that goal when during the Guelph Storm’s 7-2 loss to the London Knights. Despite the seven goals against he finished that game only with a -1 rating.

Remi Elie had three games this week and ended up tripling his point total. In the London Knights 7-2 win he finished the game with a goal and an assist.

Nick Paul had a productive week with four points in three games. He got a goal and an assist in North Bay’s 8-4 loss to the Erie Otters and got two assists in their 4-1 win over the Mississauga Steelheads. Those three games produced more points than the previous 6 games together had done.

Cody Payne has slowed down this week with only a single assist through three games for the Saginaw Spirit. Despite the lone assist he finished the week with a +5 rating suggesting that he factored into a number of goals for Saginaw.

After being a healthy scratch last week Matej Paulovic returned to the lineup for the Petes. He had his first OHL point against the Sudbury Wolves, an assist, during their 7-4 loss. He went pointless during the Petes shootout loss to the Ottawa 67s.

WHL

It hasn’t been a great week for Stars prospects in the WHL.

Firstly, Cole Ully was suspended for two games following a boarding major last week. He missed both of the Blazers two games this week.

Secondly, Mike Winther has been out with a lower body injury and hasn’t played in any of the Raiders three games this week.

Brendan Troock had a single assist in three games for the Seattle Thunderbirds. He was injured during their Saturday game however and didn’t play on Sunday. There is some mystery behind the injury and the tweets below are just speculation, but there hasn’t been any further update on what injury he suffered.

Dmitry Sinitsyn finished the week a -4 after two games this week. He had -2 rating after a 6-1 loss to the Swift Current Broncos and another -2 during the Pats 5-4 Shootout win against the Saskatoon Blades.

QMJHL

Troy Vance played three games this week and finished with a single assist and a -3 rating. His assist came during Charlottetown’s 5-3 win over Gatineau.

Philippe Desrosiers played two games this week and finished with a 0.938SVS%. He came in relief during his second game of the week and only let in a single goal on 18 shots during just under two periods of play. The Oceanic still lost that game.

Maxime Lagace finished the week with a 0.894SVS% and with a win and a loss in two games. He was named the third star of the game against Moncton.

Sweden

Emil Molin is beginning to see regular ice time again for Brynas. He’s become a regular on their fourth line and has played around 10 minutes per game in their last three games. He had two assists over those three games.

John Klingberg played three games over the last week and had a single assist. In two of those three games he played around 25 minutes a game. His lack of production might help explain why Frolunda only won one of those three games they played this week.

Ludwig Bystrom got his first point of the year, an assist, during Farjestad’s 3-1 win over AIK. He has been playing around 16+ minutes per game for Farjestad on their second defensive pairing.

Niklas Hansson got his first point of the year for Rogle during their two games this week. He got an assist during their 4-3 win over Timra IK.

Finland

Esa Lindell played in all of Jokerit’s games this week but has yet to register a point. With the return of Jokerit’s suspended defenseman he will likely return to Kiekko Vantaa.

Henri Kiviaho has yet to play a game for KalPa but continues to suit up as backup.

Aleksi Makela, I didn’t know this, is out injured but is expected back within the next few weeks.
