Its been an impressive week for several of the Dallas Stars prospects. In particular both Gemel Smith and Branden Troock have performed particularly well.
OHL
Remi Elie played two games this week and had a single assist. He had a bad game against the Guelph Storm and finished that game with a -3 rating.
Radek Faksa played two games this week. He had an impressive game against the Oshawa Generals. He got a hat trick, helping lead the Kitchener Rangers to a 5-3 win. He was the second star for the game.
Nick Paul played three games this week with the North Bay Battalion. He had his first goal (and his first point) of the season against Sault Ste. Marie. On Sunday he put two goals past Sarnia. He finished the week with a +3 rating.
Matej Paulovic has yet to register a point with the Peterborough Petes (despite a highly productive preseason). He missed their Friday game against the London Knights. I believe he was a healthy scratch.
Gemel Smith was told he needed to shoot the puck more by his coaches. It seems he’s taken that message on board after he scored five goals in two games. He has 9 goals and a single assists and leads the OHL in scoring. It seems unlikely he will keep up this rate of production but it could be an impressive season if he shows a good level of consistency.
Cody Payne continued scoring goals for the Saginaw Spirit. He had his first pointless game of the season on Saturday but made up for it by scoring two goals in their first game this week. He still leads his time in goals scored and points.
WHL
In the Western Hockey league Branden Troock had an impressive week. He had four points in three games (1 goals, 3 assists). He had a dominant game in which he scored a goal and got two assists despite being thrown out of the game before the end of the second period. He racked up 17 PIMs in one go after a fight.
Cole Ully also had a productive week in the WHL. He scored two games in his first game of the week. His second game of the week, in which he was pointless, was marred by a game misconduct after a boarding call. He had 7PIMs due to that single incident.
Dmitry Sinitsyn had two points through three games for the Regina Pats. He continues to be an impressive player on the powerplay for the Pats.
Mike Winther had two assists in two back to back games against the Brandon Wheat Kings this week. He had an assist in each game as they split the two games between them.
QMJHL
Troy Vance had an impressive week in the QMJHL with a goal and three assists in three games this week for the Charlottetown Islanders. He got two assists in their 5-4 SO loss, it was their first loss of the season. He was also named second star of the game in a 3-2 win over Saint John.
Both goalies have done pretty well in the QMJHL. Philippe Desrosiers saved 24 shots and let in two goals in the game that he played. He finished that game with a 0.923SVS%. However he had a 0.823SVS against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, letting in 3 goals on 17 shots.
Maxime Lagace pulled one out of the bag for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles saving 36 of 38 shots with a 0.947SVS%.
Sweden
Emil Molin has played this week, both in the Allsvenska and the SHL. He played on the third line for Almtuna as a stop gap due to injury issues. He played just under 10 minutes for Brynas on Saturday and went pointless.
John Klingberg had another impressive week for Frolunda. He had a goal and two assist in two games. To see a relatively impressive goal by Klingberg watch this highlight video starting at thirty seconds.
Ludwig Bystrom played two games this week and didn’t register a single point. He finished the game with an even plus/minus rating and 2PIMs.
Niklas Hansson had a +2 rating over three games this week. He has yet to register a point so far for Rogle. Whether this is because he has more defensive rather than offensive responsibilities I don’t know.
Finland
Esa Lindell played two games with Jokerit this week on their third defensive pairing. He didn’t register a point but did have 2PIM in those games.
Henri Kiviaho has yet to register a start with KalPa. He continues to suit up as their backup however.
