Dallas Stars Place Toby Petersen, Colton Sceviour, Francis Wathier, Others on Waivers

The Dallas Stars have placed Colton Sceviour, Toby Petersen, Francis Wathier, Maxime Fortunus, Travis Morin and Tyler Sloan on waivers today ahead of the newly agreed upon September 15th deadline.

The NHL and NHLPA agreed earlier in the week to the exception allowing teams to assign veterans on two-way contracts to AHL affiliates ahead of the lockout on Saturday. This is an advance on the usual mass waiver exodus of such players that usually starts 10 days prior to the opening of the season.

Renaud Lavoie of RDS reported Tuesday that these players would not have to be put on re-entry waivers if they are recalled three days before the start of the season, whenever that is.

The move assures that these players can play in the AHL in the certainty event of a lockout.

With the possible exception of Colton Sceviour in the event of an exceptional training camp (a long shot, but one some of would have been rooting for in Idaho next week), none of these players were expected to be a part of the Dallas roster for the coming year, making this merely pre-lockout house keeping.
