Dallas Stars Select Ayrton Martino 73rd Overall

With their first of two third round draft picks in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, the Dallas Stars have selected 73rd overall left winger Ayrton Martino of Clarkson University (NCAA).

Much like Logan Stankoven — who was selected by the Stars earlier today in the second round — Martino represents another highly skilled forward who could have likely gone higher. Our resident draft expert Derek Neumeier describes Martino as an “awesome skater with a lot of puck skill,” and a “possible 1st-round talent.” And Derek’s not alone in his assessment:

Martino turned heads this past season by registering 56 points in just 38 games for the Omaha Lancers in the USHL. He is currently committed to attend Clarkson University this fall to continue his playing career.

The Stars had originally obtained the 73rd overall pick from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Jason Dickinson prior to the NHL Expansion Draft.
