On a hot, summery day, Dallas Stars legend and about-to-be Hockey Hall of Famer Mike Modano welcomed two new additions to his life: twin babies, one boy and one girl.
He took to Twitter to announce their entrance into the world, including the first picture of the little bundles of joy.

Wonder what the over/under is on the age in which Modano gets his mini me to lace up the skates. Maybe around age three? With Modano’s hockey skills and wife Allison’s athleticism from being a professional golfer, I’m sure these kids will have athletic ability in their genes. We look forward to his son’s inevitable draft into the NHL.

In other hockey news, the Stars continued development camp this afternoon at their practice facility in Frisco with a little green versus white scrimmage. Here’s a few notes on what was observed:
- The crowd for today’s scrimmage was pretty large considering it was a Thursday afternoon in Texas. They would even celebrate goals scored by the prospects, and collective ooo’s and ahhhh’s of opportunities missed could be heard clearly.
- I cannot get over how much bigger the prospects as a whole have gotten. There was a time in the not-so-distant past that a prospect like Brett Richie would have been the biggest one on the ice. Now, it looks like he’d be about average with the rest of them. There’s only four or five players listed at under six feet tall on this year’s prospect camp roster.
- One thing that I have noticed consistently since Jim Nill and Lindy Ruff came to Dallas has been the pace of anything they do on ice. They like to make the players work, so the energy is usually always up and the pace is being pushed. It starts from the very beginning with this regime.
- Stars first round pick this year Julius Honka displayed an “offense first” kind of mindset in the scrimmage. That goes along with plenty of quotes he’s given about his game, but the surprising thing to me was how well he played against guys that easily had 4+ inches on him. He used his body and stick to position nicely to defend, though his penchant for offense can sometimes leave his teammates in the wind defensively when he gets caught. Those kinds of things come with time, though.
- Local hockey player John Searfoss had one of the prettier shootout goals, going bar down over the goaltender.
- Pekka Rinne’s little brother, Rasmus, is attending Stars development camp in case you haven’t heard. I really dig his red pads, if you’re out the rest of the week you’ll see what I mean.
Tomorrow’s session on ice will be from 11 AM – 12 PM. Saturday’s sessions are an on-ice from 11 AM – 12 PM and a skills contest from 3:30 PM – 4:15 PM. I’d recommend coming out early, because if today was any indication, it should be a nice crowd on Saturday.
