The Dallas Stars have sent forward Curtis McKenzie to the Texas Stars. The former AHL rookie of the year and Dallas Stars sixth-round pick hasn’t done enough to solidify his spot in the NHL, and as he is waiver-exempt, the Stars didn’t risk losing him like they would a player like Colton Sceviour or Travis Moen.
The demotion means that Mattias Janmark has made the club. If he hadn’t made the club, he was likely going to be sent back to Frolunda in Sweden. The Stars apparently didn’t want that to happen. Janmark has been impressive in camp. Hopefully that carries over to the season. Congrats to Janmark on making his first NHL roster. Drinks may very well be on him tonight.
This also means that for the time being, barring injury, the Stars will carry eight defensemen. How long they go with eight remains to be seen. If you recall, they did the same last year before losing Kevin Connauton on waivers in November.
The Stars now have 23 players on the active roster, not including Brett Ritchie, who will start the season on injured reserve.
