Dallas Stars Daily Links: The Youngest Stars Have “Something to Prove” in 2016 Prospect Tournament

The Dallas Stars begin the next milestone on the road to the 2016-17 season this Friday, as the team’s youth meet in Northern Michigan for the Traverse City Prospect Tournament. The tournament runs September 16-20.

The Detroit Red Wings host the highly competitive shindig, which will also feature young talent from the Columbus Blue Jackets, Chicago Blackhawks, Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues. Texas Stars head coach Derek Laxdal, Texas assistant Karl Taylor and Idaho Steelheads head coach Neil Graham are the bench bosses for a Stars prospect group that includes Cedar Park pros Ludwig Byström, Remi Elie, Devin Shore and Cole Ully.

Shore, for his part, is itching to get back to competition after losing much of last season to shoulder surgery:

“I think it is really important,” Shore said. “It’s good to get some confidence back and get used to the bounces of the game and the flow, the little intangibles you can’t practice. It will be good to get to back into it, and get the competition level high before camp.”

With three of the Stars’ six 2016 draftees playing in NCAA programs, and two playing in Swedish leagues, the only new prospect in the Michigan mix is Flint Firebirds forward Nick Caamano (who also happened to be one of the youngest players eligible for this year’s draft):

“It’s just the cycle of how it is,” White said. “There’s been a lot of work by our scouts to get our list together of free agent invites. It’s a great opportunity for them. We know they’ll compete, and it’s up to them to show us what they can do.”

As reader ZWal93 points out below, all Traverse City games will be available to stream on detroitredwings.com. Find much more, including a roster and schedule, at Mark Stepneski’s blog. [Stars Inside Edge]
