Dallas Stars Daily Links: Texas Hopes to Bounce Back

The Texas Stars are down 3-2 in the Calder Cup Final following a 6-2 loss to the Toronto Marlies. The Stars face elimination tomorrow, and history is not on their side:

Teams that have won Game 5 in a 2-2 series are 19-1 all-time in the Calder Cup Final. The 1987 Rochester Americans are the only team to come back and win Games 6 and 7 against the Sherbrooke Canadiens after losing Game 5 in a 2-2 series.

A big question going forward is the officiating. Many fans were upset about the lack of calls in Game 5, and it seems as if the referees have swallowed their whistles in the Final in general:

So far in the Calder Cup Final there have been 22 power plays for 68 penalty minutes, an average of 4.4 power plays per game and 13.6 PIM/game.

By comparison, the Stanley Cup Final had 30 combined power plays in five games and 129 penalty minutes. That was an average of six power plays per game and 25.8 PIM per contest.
