Nill isn’t giving any hints on what he’ll do with the mass of defenders. Think it’s fair to guess another move will have to be made.

So essentially, in an expansion process where every team had to lose a player, the Stars acquired Methot for Eakin, a 2nd & a 7th.
Not bad

Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill ticked off another item on his offseason checklist acquiring defenseman Marc Methot in a trade with the Vegas Golden Knights. In return the Stars give up a 2nd round pick in 2020 and goalie prospect Dylan Ferguson who was chosen in this year’s draft.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to acquire a player of Marc’s caliber,” Nill said. “He has proven to be a capable and steady defenseman that can play well with an offensive-minded partner, and he will add a tremendous amount of leadership and experience to our blueline.”
Methot a left shot defenseman has spent the last 5 seasons with the Ottawa Senators, He was usually paired with Norris Trophy candidate Erik Karlsson.
For the last three seasons, he has finished first among team defensemen in plus/minus rating and has finished each of those seasons ranked in the top three amongst all Senators skaters in plus/minus rating. The blueliner was acquired by the Senators via trade on July 1, 2012 from Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for forward Nick Foligno.
The rest of the story from Mark Stepneski. (Between the Blue Lines)
More quotes from Nill on the the trade.
Methot compared to other FA Dmen.
DAL didn’t pay much for Methot. If they needed a top-four person, there were some quality UFAs available… pic.twitter.com/bqDtVqVa1U

The following RFAs were extended qualifying offers:
Radek Faksa – C
Patrik Nemeth – D
Jamie Oleksiak – D
Brett Ritchie – RW
Gemel Smith – C
Matej Stransky – RW
With Methot and these offers Dallas again has a logjam on the backend. (Wrong Side of the Red Lines)
Esa Lindell signed a 2 year bridge contract for $4.4 million.
“Esa is going to be a good player for a long time in this league. It rewards him for the good season he had last year. He came in and played heavy minutes, probably played more than we thought he was going to do. That’s Esa. People don’t realize how good he is until you have him and then you realize how good he is. He’s going to be a good, steady player for a long time. (Stars)
Unable to trade goalie Antti Niemi he was placed on waivers so the team can buy him out. It will cost the Stars 1.5 million in dead cap space for the next 2 seasons.

You can close the book on the Tyler Seguin trade as the Boston Bruins get rid of the last player involved in it.
After not qualifying Joe Morrow, the Bruins officially have 0 players directly involved in the Tyler Seguin trade. coolcoolcool

Teemu Selanne, Paul Kariya, Mark Recchi and Dave Andreychuk were selected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. (SB Nation)
This was Selanne’s 1st year of eligibility. Who can forget his rookie season in 92-93 where he broke the rookie goal record with 76 goals. (NHL)
Somehow Selanne was able to congratulate former teammate Kariya before he received the official call from Lanny McDonald. (Yahoo Sports)
Since only 4 players get into the HOF each year some players have to wait a few years before their selection, Andreychuk had to wait 8 years, Recchi 4 years and Kariya 5 years before they got the call. (The Hockey New)
