As you may have heard (or seen), the Dallas Stars won last night! The squad started their three-game road trip with a 3-0 win over the Florida Panthers, thanks in large part due to a great game by Tyler Seguin:
“There is no question that Tyler Seguin since we’ve come back from this break has been our best player on an every-night basis,” Stars coach Jim Montgomery said. “He’s leading us with his effort on the ice and he’s doing the right things and staying the right things, it’s been awesome to watch. It obviously makes us a lot better.”
Of course Seguin might be flying high recently, but is he flying fast? Maybe not compared to rookie Roope Hintz:
“I actually had to tell him halfway through the first to slow down a little bit,” Seguin said. “I’m not even kidding, when he goes, he goes. I feel like I’m a quick player, but he’s so fast out there… He can fly and he’s gonna be a heck of a player for a long time.”

Stars’ uber-rookie Miro Heiskanen met a familiar face on the ice last night in Panthers’ rookie Henrik Borgstrom:
Miro Heiskanen and Henrik Borgstrom played junior hockey together in FInland. They’ll share NHL ice Tuesday night.

Biggest story of the night: how empty the arena was.
Official attendance was 9,472 tonight, 9th fewest fans to watch an NHL game this season.

Here’s shutout king Anton Khudobin on the crowd as well as his performance:

Central Census
Is it just me, or do I keep getting Links the day after the entire Central decides to play?
- Leading the division is but a distant memory for the Colorado Avalanche, who continue their downward spiral with a 5-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. [Pension Plan Puppets]
- On the other side of the spectrum, the Winnipeg Jets continue to hold down the fort at first place with a 4-3 win over the New York Rangers. [Blue Shirt Banter]
- The Minnesota Wild failed to gain ground on the Stars for third after losing to the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4. [Broad Street Hockey]
- Meanwhile, the St. Louis Blues are only two points back on the Stars with a game in hand, thanks to a 8-3 thrashing of the New Jersey Devils. [All About the Jersey]
- In quite the upset, the Nashville Predators got edged out by the Detroit Red Wings 3-2. [Winging it in Motown]
- Finally, the Chicago Blackhawks had their seven-game winning streak snapped in a 6-3 loss to the Boston Bruins. [Second City Hockey]/
Before you look at the Central standings, try and figure out what they look like based on the clues given in the game results above. Or don’t, because you hate fun:
Around the League
In some alternate universe, the Seguin trade to Dallas is on this list. But on second thought, I’m not sure a reality where Peter Chiarelli is a good GM exists:

Matt Larkin breaks down the top 30 names to watch at the trade deadline. Might one of them end up in Dallas? [The Hockey News]
So, uhh, this happened:
Pastrnak and several of his teammates attended a sponsorship dinner on Sunday night. At about 11:30, while walking to his transportation, Pastrnak fell and injured his left thumb.
Team will know better in two weeks, but Pastrnak is expected to return and play this season.

Biggest surprise of the season? Easily the New York Islanders: [NBC Sports]
Finally, Joe Pavelski is on fire lately, but will it ultimately end up hurting the San Jose Sharks?
Joe Pavelski is on pace for 43 goals as he heads towards free agency. The Sharks will want to keep him, but they might need to make tough decisions or get creative in order to fit their captain under the cap, writes @THNJaredClintonhttps://t.co/dZB7n5foLv
