Perhaps it’s because fifth round picks for the Dallas Stars are destined for greatness, but there’s a lot to be excited about when it comes to Nick Caamano. The 19-year-old forward, drafted 146th overall in 2016, has continuously impressed his coaches and teammates with his play. He’s also managed to catch the eye of Stars Player Development Coordinator Rich Peverley:
“This year in the [OHL] playoffs he was outstanding. I was lucky he was 30 minutes from my house [in Guelph] so I got to see him play quite a bit,” Peverley said. “He competes. He’s extremely dedicated off the ice. He’s physical. He’s aggressive. He gets in your face, can score around the net. He really does everything you want in a player.”
After winning an OHL championship with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Caamano is expected to join the Texas Stars for the 2018-2019 season. His biggest goal to help prepare him for the next level? Work on his two-way game:
“I thought my 200-foot game really evolved [in the OHL]. I was a go-to guy in the last minute of play. I really worked hard to be in that position, worked hard in my D-zone,” Caamano said. “I think that’s a big part of the next level. You’ve got to work on the d-zone, it’s not all offense.”
