Dallas Stars Daily Links: What Will It Take To Make The Stars Align?

The Dallas Stars made magic happen for a young heart patient and his team on Wednesday afternoon. But they seem to have saved nothing for last night. The Victory Green gang lost yet again, this time to former first-round prospect Jack Campbell and a suffering Los Angeles Kings squad.

Stars senior staff writer Mike Heika writes that the Stars have received “pretty much every form of motivation” already. Maybe now they need to remember that this game is fun, just like the Minnesota Twins did in Little Big League:

“Maybe the problem is you guys forgot how much fun this is,” [12-year-old GM Billy] Heywood said in a pivotal scene of the 1994 film where he inherits the baseball team from his grandpa and then names himself manager. “You’re major leaguers. I mean, you’re on baseball cards. What could be better?.”…

If only the Stars could have that kind of moment this season. If only they had a reminder of just how lucky they are.

And if only this were a kids’ movie, the team might have some assurance of a happy ending. Instead, they endured an evening in which an authentic superstar, Alexander Radulov, ended up riding pine for lackluster play:

The organization feels the time to win is now. It made a move to get Andrew Cogliano in hopes of bringing in more speed and more veteran savvy. Pundits and fans speculated that the trade of popular young forward Devin Shore to the Ducks would provide another message – another subtle motivation to the players that they need to be better.

And it sure looks like it didn’t work.

You knew it would happen eventually, and the Calgary Flames have decided not to make their fans wait. They’ll retire Jarome Iginla’s number 12 in March.
