Dallas Stars Daily Links: Mattias Janmark Will Miss the Rest of the Season

Stars forward Mattias Janmark has started skating recently, after being out all season after knee surgery to fix a problem, he has dealt with during his hockey career. Now it is being announced he won’t return this year.

“It’s fun. I’ve been on a few morning skates, but practice is a step further,” Janmark said. “It’s fun skating on the ice. It feels pretty good, but it’s hard to say because I am not going too hard. You could try to push it but there is no reason, and I don’t think I feel good enough to do it.”

Janmark had a condition called osteochondritis dissecans which affects the blood flow to the bone. The surgery has an 80% chance of recovery and he hopes to be ready for training camp next season.

“I for sure expect to be ready by camp. I’ll probably have some hints during the summer, but for sure that’s my goal,” Janmark said. “If I am not ready by then, then I am going to have to start looking at options. That’s a long time, that’s almost 12 months [since the surgery]. But I for sure expect to be ready by then. Absolutely.”

The recent version of the Stars is to play a high-energy fast style game. That style helped them to the best record in the Western Conference. This year though has been a disaster, with injuries and new personnel the team could not get on track.

The road to the Frozen Four begins on Friday and 2 of the Stars prospects will be competing in the West Regional. 2016 1st round pick Riley Tufte’s Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs are the #1 seed. Rhett Gardner’s North Dakota team won it all last year and are the host team for the regional as the # 3 seed. Ohio State (#2) and Boston University (#4) are the other 2 teams in the regional. Texas Stars:

Last night the Texas Stars hosted the Tucson Roadrunners (Arizona) in a wild affair at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park. The Stars had a 3-1 lead in the 3rd period but the Roadrunners scored 2 goals in the 3rd including one in the final minute to send the game to overtime. Matej Stransky put in a rebound to give the Stars a 4-3 win. (Texas Stars)

Interesting situation in the Maple Leafs vs Blue Jackets game last night as Leafs coach Mike Babcock forgot to put a player in the box during a 5 minute major to Roman Polak. Polak was also given a game misconduct penalty.

Rule 20.3 stipulates that a team can wait until a stoppage in play while killing off a major penalty before sending someone to the box. The only problem? There wasn’t one, and the Leafs wound up giving Columbus a power play that stretched six minutes 54 seconds with no whistles as a result. (Sportsnet)

Starting on the 18th the Golden Knights will have a 3 day window to speak with any FA or RFAs that are not protected to work a deal before the July 1st FA window opens.
