Happy Thursday, folks! As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, the Dallas Stars have hired Jim Montgomery to be their new head coach. Since Taylor covered it extensively yesterday and Logan did a breakdown of his resumé two days ago, I won’t go into any articles up here in the top section, but I’ve tried to link to several different stories that provide different perspectives on what Montgomery brings to the table. The general media consensus is that this is a good hire, and from the limited amount of research I’ve done, I agree. I think I’m mostly just happy that they are bringing in someone fresh who seems to be able to connect well with players, isn’t distrustful of analytics, seems to understand that hockey today is different than hockey twenty-plus years ago, and isn’t named Alain Vigneault. Anyways, have a fantastic day!

There were many, many headlines to choose from for the news, but I liked this one the best:

Interesting…:
Jim Montgomery seems like a good choice as coach in Dallas. Interviewed in Florida last year and had interest from Rangers this year so was a matter of time.

This is a pretty cool breakdown:

The future is still unclear for most of the current assistant coaches:
Nill said new coach would be part of decision on current coaches. I do get the feeling no matter what Stu Barnes will be back https://t.co/rCYoI0ydRL

Congratulations Miro Heiskanen! “Pekka Rautakallio Award” is a bit more of a mouthful than “Norris Trophy”:
#DallasStars prospect Miro Heiskanen has won the Pekka Rautakallio Award which is given to the best defenceman in Liiga. Heiskanen is the youngest ever winner of the award. #GoStars

Around the League
Playoff update:
- The Tampa Bay Lightning jumped out to a quick lead thanks to two quick goals from Ondrej Palat and they never looked back as they beat the Boston Bruins 4-1 to take a 2-1 series lead. [NHL]
- The San Jose Sharks completely controlled the contest last night against the Vegas Golden Knights, winning 4-1 to even the series at two games apiece. [NHL]/
Well, there we are then:
Washington’s Tom Wilson suspended three games for an illegal check to the head on Pittsburgh’s Zach Aston-Reese. https://t.co/rrZ8Hp3XkE
— NHL Player Safety (@NHLPlayerSafety) May 2, 2018
Imagine how differently people would be talking about Tom Wilson if he played 20-25 years ago, à la Scott Stevens (not saying I think all of his hits are okay, just that times have changed):
Tom Wilson will be punished this time. And he’s going to hurt a bunch more players with totally clean hits, too. He’s not the problem – the NHL rulebook is.

Texas! Stars!
Tucson and Phoenix are both in Arizona and are both spelled weird.
As visions of next season danced in my head…:
A lot to like about the Dickinson-Hintz-Gurianov line tonight. Have had some of Texas best chances

Brian Flynn knotted things at 1 to send the game to OT:
