Dallas Stars Daily Links: The Future is Bright for Jason Robertson

Welcome back, everyone! Hope you all enjoyed the brief holiday break, because it’s time to get right back into the thick of things!

Before that, however, let’s take a look at one of the top prospects in the Dallas Stars system: forward Jason Robertson. Robertson is one of the top scorers in the OHL this season, compiling a whopping 60 points (31 G + 29 A) in just 32 games. That was more than enough to practically guarantee him a spot on Team USA for this year’s World Juniors tournament, which he is currently at.

But while his scoring is quite impressive, there are other kinks that Robertson needs to iron out of his game, specifically his skating:

The knock against Robertson’s speed and fluidity on the ice has followed him around throughout his tenure as an NHL prospect. He was a first-round talent with the puck on his stick, but fell to the second round in 2017 because of his skating.

That drop was the first of several “wake-up calls” that have gotten Robertson to try and refine his overall game. He worked out with trainer Gary Roberts this summer, and so far the results look promising:

“He looks a lot better to me,” a scout who works for an Eastern Conference NHL team said. “He’s really grown his his game further overall, does a bit more of everything. If he’s going to make it, it’s going to be as a goal scorer, but you also need to do those other things to impact a game when the puck isn’t going in.”
