Dallas Stars Daily Links: Eaves Feels Lucky to be on the Ice

Patrick Eaves is enjoying one of his best seasons so far tied with Tyler Seguin with 18 goals, 10 of those on the power play. So far this season he has only missed one game but he is lucky to be on the ice at all after a Roman Josi (Predators) shot from the point shattered his jaw back in 2011, when he played for the Red Wings.

Fortunately I didn’t eat it,” recalled Eaves. “But it got me through my ear hole on my helmet, broke my jaw in a bunch of places — kinda just blew up my ear up a little bit and dislocated everything so I was a mess for a while.”

Eaves also battled concussion symptoms after the hit turned to ping pong to aid in his recovery.

“I’d say [vision therapy] was the biggest thing,” explained Eaves. “Just retraining my eyes so my body wasn’t spinning all the time. That took a while actually. But I was able to use ping-pong — which is something I love — to help train my eyes again. But getting out on the ice, sometimes you’d just fall right over and you’re — what’s going on?”

Friday a report from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said a high ranking official said coach Lindy Ruff would be fired if the Stars miss the postseason. They wouldn’t necessarily need to fire him since this is the final year of his contract.

The Hockey News says that this season is not Ruff’s fault as injuries and slumps by Jamie Benn and John Klingberg have helped doomed this season. (THN)
