Dallas Stars Daily Links: A Look Back at the Stars’ 2011 Draft Class

As speculation over who the Stars will select in 2016 NHL Draft ramps up, Sean Shapiro takes a look back at what happened in drafts of years past. In 2011, Dallas made six picks, three of whom—Jamie Oleksiak, Brett Ritchie, and Jyrki Jokipakka—have played in the NHL.

Shapiro writes off fourth-round pick Emil Molin and fifth-rounder Troy Vance as busts, but is more optimistic about Matej Stransky.

The Czech winger Matej Stransky was a low-risk, potentially high-reward selection for Dallas in the sixth round after he had 26 points for the Saskatoon Blades during the 2010-11 season. …

This season, Stransky took major strides after being a healthy scratch on opening night and set a career high with 23 goals. He is still a long-shot, but has opened the window to get a handful of NHL games in his career as a call-up.
