Dallas Stars 2010-11 Season Grades: Jason Williams

Once again it’s that time of year here on Defending Big D where we take a look at each player that suited up for 25 or more games this season (and are still with the team) and take a look back at their season.  What was good about it, what wasn’t so good, and the lasting impression they left us as we go into summer.

2010 – Jason Williams 2 3 5 -2 6

Key Stat:  10 – Games it took before Jason Williams scored his first goal as a Dallas Star; a goal that happened to be a game winning goal against San Jose.

The Good:  Signed by the Stars in February as a warm and healthy body to help the club get through some injury issues, Williams was a nice feel-good story returning from a lengthy absence from a broken leg and provided the Stars with some much needed spark as a bottom six forward.

The Bad:  Williams contract is up this summer and 27 games really isn’t much to base any future decisions on.  There were some games he provided a spark in the lineup, and there were other games he seemed invisible.

The Bottom Line:  At the age of 30, it’s already very questionable that he’d be brought back with the Stars next season.  Maybe if he had shown a more consistent level of play – something he can’t be totally blamed for not doing coming off his injury – Williams would be more of an automatic to get another look by the Stars this fall.  Chances are though he will land somewhere in the NHL as he has a great work ethic.

The Vote: Rate Williams below on a scale of A to F (A being the best of course) based on his performance relative to his potential and your expectations for the season.
