Game 25 Scoring Chances: #PeskyStars Impeach Senators

“I love winning man….I love winning it’s like…..better than losing.” –Nuke LaLoosh

The Stars third line mania continued last night as the Stars took two more points, with half of the team on IR, from the Senators in a 3-2 victory. The scoring opportunities for both teams inconsistently appeared so we saw various games crop up throughout the night. We rocked back and forth between relatively little of significance happening and flurries of quality chances.

These games have been relatively ugly as we expected when the Stars IR parade began, but Nuke LaLoosh put it best in Bull Durham. Winning is much better than losing, even if it isn’t particularly pretty. Any number of cliches could be inserted here, but I’m not desperate enough for words to list more than one. “There are no style points”.The NHL doesn’t give out style points despite the fact that the screwy point system gives a third point out every now and then. No one would’ve gotten a hypothetical style point last night, but the Senators and Stars played a low chance tight game until the final buzzer. The Stars ended up outchancing the Senators 9-8 as you can see below.

The scoring chance report reflects how tight the game was. Neither team ever really got the upper hand. Neither team had an advantage at even strength or special teams. Game 25 ended up being a coin flip. The Stars were fortunate to come away with the victory on the heels of a late comeback fueled with goals by Radek Dvorak and Eric Nystrom. They played well enough to win though. The individual player numbers reflect the even level of play

At +3 even strength scoring chances Adam Pardy led the Stars. His partner Mark Fistric was also a +2. The five pack that spends quite a lot of time together (Stephane Robidas, Sheldon Souray, Steve Ott, Mike Ribeiro, and Tomas Vincour) were a collective -2. Ribeiro and Ott got back to -1 as Dvorak took the ice for Vincour during a line change to tie the game up at 2-2.

I did a slight formatting change to the player report. I sorted it by position to see if that helps clarify anything. I can still organize it further by putting the specific lines together. If anyone wants that done I’ll make it happen for the next report.

Below you can find the detailed chance report, but it isn’t very detailed. If you have any scoring questions, as usual, just leave a comment or send me a tweet @JoshL1220.
