As Popularity of Dallas Stars Continues to Rise, So Does Media Coverage

The Dallas Stars appear to be a franchise on the rise.

With budding superstars in the NHL like Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, young guys being added to an already-young core like John Klingberg, Val Nichushkin and Cody Eakin, and an offensive-minded system that is an exciting brand of hockey to watch, the Dallas Stars do appear poised for great success moving forward.

Following a rather disappointing season where they were expected to make the playoffs and make a good run once there, the buzz around the Dallas Stars has continued about the promise and potential of this group of men on ice even still.

Media coverage has increased locally, and the Stars did a good job this season of getting players on the airwaves and on the billboards around town to increase the Stars’ brand awareness.

Pushing their media plan forward moving into the offseason and trying to maintain that buzz about the Stars, the NHL club and their main broadcast partner 1310 The Ticket announced today an all-new “Stars Sunday” segment for the duration of the summer.

Hosted by Bruce Levine and Owen Newkirk, the same duo that did pregame, intermissions and postgame of Stars games this season, the Stars Sunday one hour radio show will be broadcast every Sunday from 11 AM to 12 PM. It will focus solely on Dallas Stars news and analysis.

The new show will premiere this Sunday at a special 12 PM start time, so make sure you tune it in, keep it up and keep it on 1310 The Ticket.

Here is the official release from the team about the new show:

Dallas Stars President and CEO Jim Lites, in conjunction with Sportsradio 1310 AM/96.7 FM The Ticket Program Director Jeff Catlin, announced today the creation of Stars Sunday, a weekly radio program devoted to the Dallas Stars. The show will premiere this Sunday, May 3, airing from Noon to 1:00 pm CT.

“For the first time ever, fans will now be able to tune into The Ticket for a unique and in-depth radio program dedicated to Stars hockey,” Lites said. “We are tremendously excited to build upon our partnership with The Ticket and continuing to offer the Metroplex the most complete Stars coverage on the radio year-round.”

Stars Sunday will air from 11:00 am to Noon every Sunday through the end of the summer, with the exception of this Sunday’s inaugural episode which will begin at Noon CT. The show will be hosted by Bruce LeVine and Owen Newkirk, who serve as hosts of the pregame, intermission and postgame shows for all Dallas Stars broadcasts on The Ticket. LeVine is in his fifth year as a member of the Dallas Stars radio broadcast team, while Newkirk just completed his first season with the team. The weekly, one-hour show will focus on a wide array of Stars-related topics along with in-depth analysis and commentary.

“There is a growing demand for Stars content as the team continues to rise,” Catlin said. “Owen and Bruce’s work on the pregame, intermission and postgame shows has made it an essential part of the fan experience, and we’re thrilled to have them further our coverage of the Dallas Stars.”

For the last six seasons, The Ticket has served as the radio home for Dallas Stars hockey, broadcasting all regular season and postseason contests. Additionally, the station also broadcasts pregame, intermission and postgame programming providing Metroplex sports fans with the most complete Stars coverage on the radio.
