Rasmus Asplund is a classic Swedish forward. He’s a hard working two way center who can play in all situations. He plays the full 200-foot game and has spent most of this season playing against adults in Sweden’s top league.
He’s a fast skater and can easily move around the ice, a big help for his two way game. He’s a very skilled center and uses his speed to help set up the play. He uses his playmaking skills and speed to set up teammates who are following him into the offensive zone. Asplund also has a deceivingly good shot.
Defensively he knows where to be and and has the willingness to block shots, take hits and make sure that the puck gets out of his own zone.
Despite his game overall being very good he isn’t expected to be a high-end offensive player. He’ll probably be a good two way player who can get the job done but won’t be on an NHL teams top line.
At 5’11” and 175lbs he could do with becoming a bit stronger if he wants to make it into the NHL.
Overall he has a very good package and has a lot of skill. While there might be players who have higher offensive talent that could be selected at 25th they are much more likely to bust.
Asplund on the other hand is a solid two way player who plays a game that could work well in the NHL, although he would need to become stronger. Playing most of the season in the SHL is impressive for an 18-year-old and on some nights near the end of the season his line was the best for Farjestad.
