The NHL has announced the official order for the 2015 NHL Draft. We basically knew the order, but it couldn’t become official until the Stanley Cup was awarded. Now that the Blackhawks have triggered debates about whether or not they are a dynasty the rest of us who don’t care can now officially look at things that do matter.
The Dallas Stars pick 12th, 49th, 103rd, 133rd, 163rd, and 193rd in the upcoming draft. Their original 2nd round pick (42nd) is now property of the Ottawa Senators in the Jason Spezza trade, but the Stars picked up the 49th pick from Detroit in the Erik Cole trade. In that same deal the Stars sent their 3rd round pick, number 73, to Detroit
The full order is here. Picks that involve the Stars in some way are in yellow because…well…I hit control F before I started making the images, but I didn’t want to go back and change them.
It’s worth noting that this order could change at any moment over the next week with the amount of trade activity expected. As you can see, quite a few picks have already been dealt.
If the Stars do make all of their picks they will be mostly picking right behind the host Florida Panthers. The Panthers get the lucky designation of “the team most likely to get dog cussed by Stars fans for ruining the draft” this year. The last two drafts have worked out well for the Stars at the top, but we aren’t far removed from really quality players getting popped right in front of the Stars. if anyone is likely to do it, this time it’s the host.
The Draft takes place June 26-27th from BB&T Center in Florida. We will have full coverage of the draft for you here as the picks happen as well as full coverage heading up to the draft. All of our draft profiles can be found in our draft hub here.
This is always an exciting time every year. The last two years Tyler Seguin, Jason Spezza, Val Nichushkin, and Julius Honka have found their way into the organization around this time. God only knows what Jim Nill has cooking right now.
