2014 NHL Free Agency: Dallas Stars Sign Depth Forward Patrick Eaves

Edit: One year, 650000, and one way for the contract.

The Dallas Stars continue shoring up the 2014-15 roster by signing winger Patrick Eaves.

The 30 year old forward skated in 30 games last year between the Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators registering five points.

He has 444 games to his name in the NHL with a career 146 points. The scoring has dried up lately, but earlier in his career he did break 30 points and has five 20 point seasons to his name.

Despite the big moves the Stars made earlier today they still had some depth issues to address. Chris Mueller left for the Rangers. Vernon Fiddler is still a free agent. The Stars likely don’t want to hand minutes to young players without making them earn their place so signings such as Eaves were inevitable.

Eaves has a pretty significant injury history according to a very quick Google search.

Presumably the contract is pretty small and shouldn’t impact any other pursuits in which the Stars may be engaging.
