2013-2014 Dallas Stars Roster Analysis: Defensive Injuries Biggest Factor in Week 9

In this weekly feature, I look at where individuals are trending to in this handy-dandy table format. The analysis of each person is done solely by me and my observations — sometimes I do it by committee with other writers, but I’ve got the ultimate say. So if you disagree on any of these, feel free to tell me in the comments! Who doesn’t like a good ol’ hockey debate?

The Dallas Stars continue picking up points in games, but the cost has been significant.

Jamie BENN
6gp, 0-2-2, -3

Comments: Jamie Benn is struggling in the goal scoring department the past two weeks and you can see he’s frustrated about it.

Jordie BENN
5gp, 0-1-1, -1

Comments: Jordie Benn started to struggle a touch down the stretch of these past two weeks, resulting in a healthy scratch in Toronto last night. With defensive injuries he’ll be back in tomorrow most likely.

Alex CHIASSON
6gp, 2-0-2, -4

Comments: Alex Chiasson has found his goal scoring touch again, but he continues to get torched defensively at times.

Erik COLE
6gp, 2-2-4, +3

Comments: Erik Cole has been playing some of his best hockey these last two weeks. He’s on a two game goal streak.

Kevin CONNAUTON
2gp, 0-1-1, +1

Comments: Kevin Connauton scored his first NHL point and played well in last night’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Trevor DALEY
6gp, 0-1-1, -3

Comments: Trevor Daley was looking his normal steady self until he was injured last night in the overtime loss to Toronto. It seems unfair that he got a -1 for being on the ice when the team was scored on when he was clutching his leg in the corner.

Brenden DILLON
6gp, 1-0-1, +2

Comments: Brenden Dillon has looked good even after losing his usual defensive partner Stephane Robidas to injury.

Cody EAKIN
6gp, 1-2-3, Even

Comments: Cody Eakin has had stronger play as of late, though he does still miss defensive coverages. He’s won some big faceoffs for the team in key moments in games lately as well.

Dan ELLIS
2gp, 1-0-0, 2.00 GAA, .880 SV%

Comments: Dan Ellis appeared once in relief and started one game, recording a win against the Anaheim Ducks.

Vernon FIDDLER
6gp, 0-3-3, +1

Comments: Vernon Fiddler’s line has been leading the offensive charge the past few games, and his stats have benefited because of it.

Ryan GARBUTT
5gp, 3-2-5, +1

Comments: Ryan Garbutt had a point-per-game pace in his last two weeks before getting a bone bruise on his foot that prevents him from being able to skate. Tough break as he was really heating up.

Alex GOLIGOSKI
6gp, 0-1-1, Even

Comments: Alex Goligoski is just one goal away from matching his goal production from last season in just 26 games played.

Sergei GONCHAR
6gp, 0-1-1, -3

Comments: Sergei Gonchar had probably one of his best games last night — he was activating on offense and it paid off with Horcoff’s goal.

Shawn HORCOFF
6gp, 1-3-4, +2

Comments: Shawn Horcoff is heating up, and he even scored another goal that wasn’t counted due to a high stick.

Dustin JEFFREY
4gp, 0-0-0, -1

Comments: Dustin Jeffrey has been decent in limited ice time, and had a couple of really good chances last night.

Kari LEHTONEN
5gp, 1-1-3, 2.80 GAA, .887 SV%

Comments: Kari Lehtonen is the reason why the Stars have gotten points out of the majority of their games these last two weeks, but he did put up his first real bad game against St. Louis.

Valeri NICHUSHKIN
6gp, 1-2-3, +1

Comments: Valeri Nichushkin has been producing even though he’s getting lesser ice time lately. He continues to be a puck possession fiend.

Jamie OLEKSIAK
2gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Jamie Oleksiak looks really good at times and at others looks like a rookie that still needs more time to develop.

Rich PEVERLEY
6gp, 1-2-3, +1

Comments: Rich Peverley is one of those guys that does the little things right. He got rewarded for that in the last two weeks.

Stephane ROBIDAS
1gp, 0-0-0, Even

Comments: Get well soon, Stephane Robidas .

Antoine ROUSSEL
6gp, 3-1-4, +1

Comments: Antoine Roussel fought, scored goals, scored a penalty shot, assisted on goals…what didn’t he do these past two weeks?

Tyler SEGUIN
4gp, 0-0-0, -2

Comments: Tyler Seguin missed two games with concussion-like symptoms and hasn’t recorded a point in his last five games.

Ray WHITNEY
5gp, 0-2-2, Even

Comments: Ray Whitney completely missed a wide-open net last night.
